I am going to be moving to Katy in late July. I will be working out of my house and have to have a very good internet connection for the software support work that I do. What all options are available around Katy and Cinco Ranch? I have looked into Verizon's offering and it looks good but to check to see if it is available you have to plug in a physical address and we don't have one yet. Thanks in advance.

Depends on what part of Katy you will be in.
We have Comcast, which has worked just fine for us..
Some areas have En-Touch or other local providers as part of a bundled package.
I don't believe FIOS is available in Katy yet, at least not in our area.
AT&T is also an option in some areas.

In the newest areas your choices will probably be very limited. Comcast (cable) is probably available to most areas, unless the community has a contract with a single provider. In some areas of 77450, ATT U-verse is available. I don't know that fios is available in Katy at all.

Fios isn't offered out here in Katy. U-verse is available in some parts of Katy, but for some reason not in my neck of the woods (77494). I tried Clear, Consolidated Communications and Comcast. Comcast will be your best bet. Look for any promotional deals that they may have...

With Comcast do you have to have their phone service. Is it only worthwhile if you end up combo'ing with cable service? I was hoping to go without a land line and to keep my DirecTV.

You can get cable onl. They usually have specials. 6 monthss for 30.00 a month. You can pay more and get more speed, I believe.

No, you can just go with the Internet service only.
That's we have with Comcast.
We have DirecTV and don't have landline.
I had the Performance service with Comcast at $20/month for the 1st 6 months.
I am currently paying $30/month for the next 12 months

Is it pretty dependable as far as service? We have AT&T DSL right now and of course the speed isn't the same as cable but I never have an outage.

Since having their internet service, I haven't had any outage issues with them... I've mostly used their services for about 5 years...
