According to this list, the city of Houston's Christmas Tree is the 11th tallest in the nation (just 4 ft. short of the one in New York!). Did anybody go to the Downtown tree lighting ceremony? How was it? Care to share pics?

In a related note: Did anybody go to the Uptown tree lighting ceremony? That thing gets bigger and bigger every year! Does anybody have pics from that?

I went Friday evening to the downtown lighting. It was ok. Very short, only from 6-8pm. I have some friends that got there at 7:30 with their children, by the time they parked, it was pretty much over. They had live music and booths with Santa and food. They could of kept the event going until 9 or 10. Everyone was enjoying the music, but a lot of people did leave after the fireworks at 7pm.

The tree is nice. I would assume the Uptown festivities were better.

We have a downtown?I kid...but yeah..anyway..

When in town, we've always gone to the Uptown Lighting. Uptown is becoming increasingly urban, yet still has the small town feel to it.

Good show. Now I need some pictures of it that are better than the ones I did last year.

I was thinking of going to the lighting at one point, but you might say I didn't end up feeling like going out there. Or anywhere this weekend.

60-70 feet seems about average.

Now those 110 footers look awesome I'm sure.

They ended at 8?! Lame.

I'm surprised that TMC doesn't have it's own little lighting ceremony of some sort. Then, all three CBD's in Houston would have their own little festival. I also wonder how tall the tree in the Galleria's ice rink is. Maybe it's b/c it's indoors but that thing always seems HUGE!

For the link of the OP, you can navigate to "prev" or "next" for other trees. But if you go to the URL and switch the 10 out with either 2 or 3, you can see the two tallest living Christmas trees.

One town may be trying to edge-out the other:

Ferndale and it's Tall Living Christmas Tree

This makes one wonder if the firemen referred to made the measurement, and if they did, why its coincidentally just slightly more than the Idaho Christmas tree.
