Lighting up the Imperial Sugar Char House (Sugar Land, Happy: transplants, neighborhood)

I am a big sucker for historical monuments around our town (not that they are too many) - even woke up early to take the kids to watch the metal buildings go down a couple of weeks ago - then last week I noticed that the lights inside the Char House are lit up in a 'Cross' pattern - no offense to anyone but Sugar Land is a very diverse town and to link a key building to a particular religion doesnt make sense.

I just hope that this is being done for Christmas only and not a permanent feature.

Many buildings in Texas do this every Christmas. Yes, just Christmas, no need to be "worried." Even so, if it's a private company building, they can do just about whatever they want anyway.... and just because there are now many transplants, the natives shouldn't have to change their long-time traditions (Sugarland was not always very diverse) in order to not "offend" people. I can assume you haven't been in Texas very long perhaps, I see many buildings that do it.

I have lived in Sugar Land since 1971. Imperial Sugar has lit up a cross in the char house for as long as I can remember. It's tradition! People need to stop being offended by something they *think* might have to do with religion. Even if it is a religious symbol...who cares! Why be offended by it? I'm not offended by all the other religious stuff I see or bells I hear all around town! Lighting up the Char House with that cross is tradition and nothing more. I look forward to seeing it every year. Well, just keep in mind, if it's private property, they can have a cross up all year round. That's America for ya! Those pesky freedoms, always getting in the way... :-)

Next you'll want to silence church bells ringing on Sunday mornings - oh wait, that's already being done. Funny, growing up I pretty much lived in a Jewish neighborhood, participated in my best friend's Hanukkah festivities as she and others celebrated our Christmas traditions. Another friend was of mid-Eastern background who was right in there with us - IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. The Shah of Iran visited his niece at that same little neighborhood school. We all lived together just fine. You're style of PC is, in my opinion, doing us in and just promotes intolerance rather than acceptance of all peace-loving human beings, regardless of their religion.
