So, here's an up date on the differences between San Diego where I spent six years.

Firstly, the intense heat was just dying down when I arrived in mid-September, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! Although it is a bit chilly now, it's no colder than San Diego was in winter, and I infinitely prefer the damp coolness than the dry coolness. For a start, it's better for my skin!

I also love the fact that I'm meeting people from all over the world in Houston, something I seldom did in San Diego. As a duel South African/European citizen with an American Green Card, I prefer to be in a city with an enormous international population.

The cost of living is infinitely better in Houston. San Diego was a nightmare. I think if one earns a lot, though, San Diego would win in several ways, especially if one likes a small town atmosphere. And, of course, if one loves wonderful beaches!

It's easier to find work in Houston than in San Diego. Many people are really suffering in San Diego. Houston has a lot more jobs although, as in most American cities, if one hasn't got a four year degree in a highly sought after job, then well paid jobs are not that easy to come by.

I think the people in Houston are much friendlier than in San Diego. However, there is greater sophistication and less of a bible belt feeling in San Diego. So, it depends what you prefer.

Cars are needed in both places. One cannot exist without one in either citiy.

Feel free to contact me if you want to know anything, and you're thinking of moving to either city.

Glad it's been a good experience. I'm from San Diego, it's a great town but quality of life here is better. Your first full summer will be tough but most of us get used to it after going through one.

Isn't SD diverse also? The summer is very harsh here though, humid and hot.

Every city has pros and cons but if if you have the money, I would live in CA. I am from San Jose btw.

Life is such an adventure. Can't wait to start our next chapter in Houston this May.

Big city like Houston...No one can ever, ever sit in their house/apartment saying to themself, "There's nothing to do".

It's Houston, for Pete's sake! Get out of the house!

Nice to read that you've been having a good experience since moving from San Diego. We moved here a little over 2 yrs ago from San Diego where I lived for 7 yrs. Previous to that, I was in Santa Barbara for 8. Your assessments/comparisons are right-on-the-money from my perspective.

I hope that life in Houston continues to agree with you. And...welcome, by the way!
