Is there a reason Pearland does not have a library instead of a substation?
East Pearland has a library. West Pearland grew and the library is further away than the distance between other Brazoria County libraries, but there is no money to build a new one at the moment. Pearland went from a community of 10,000 to a community of 100,000 in a very short period.

The substation is NEW. We did not even have than until last year. There used to be a bookmobile, but the old van died and they did not feel it would be a good investment to replace that.

The water park is just a small splash pad. It's right outside the pool area on Southwyck Parkway. I didn't mean to give the impression that it was a real large water park

Default Brazoria County

When I think of Brazoria County, Pearland comes to mine because it has grown and continues to grow from what I have heard. I didn't realize that there are 46 towns in Brazoria county and only 22 are incoporated. Most of these towns are predominately caucasian and hispanic and poor. Does anyone know the percentage of poverty in Brazoria County vs other counties in and around Houston? I was surprised to learn that 27% of people in Texas don't have health insurance according to 2009 statistic. The highest in the nation.

Anyway, this explains why there is so much rave about Pearland (where to move) because it doesn't seem as though there is much to pick from of places to live closer to downtown Houston and with amenties.

You'll still drive 25 minutes to a mall or a movie. That's how long it takes to move about 3 miles on FM-518.

LOL. You don't have to use FM-518 to get around. There are back routes to both the Silverlake Mall and the Pearland Town Center. It takes me about 5 minutes to get to the movie theater using Southfork and CR 94. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the Pearland Town Center using Southfork and Kirby.

downside to the east side, someone asked: it's ghetto. everything is run down and zoned for businesses next to houses with cars in the yard.

haha - I find the new West to be more ghetto. As my co-worker refers to her sister - she calls her ghetto-fabulous described by - the car, the wheels, the late night bass, the bling but pride in ownership of homes varies so some are kept up and some are not because all available money goes to looking fabulous.

What exactly does "ghetto" mean in a place like Pearland?

I don't think there is any ghetto in Pearland .... I only think there is the random Ghetto Fabulous which my co-workers refers to as working on the look for themselves and their cars but not really giving a rat's &$# about their home's upkeep.

I'd agree with this.
