Default Husband working in galveston, Im working downtown, help!!

My husband and I are relocating to Texas soon. He has a job at the University of Texas Medical branch and I have a job in downtown Houston. Being unfamiliar with the traffic there, would it be realistic to livei n La Marque, Dickinson or League City? What would approximate commute be? Thanks for any info

Ooh...lots of driving.

If it were me, I would choose League City - not too awful far to the Bay Area Park & Ride to get to downtown Houston. (ridemetro.org has info). That would help keep you sane - and the park & ride can use a dedicated lane on the Gulf Freeway (I-45) to get into Houston.

There has also been talk of a park & ride in the League City area to go in to Galveston (southbound).

The Bay Area park & ride is located east of I-45 - in fact it is east of Highway 3 - so if you lived west of I-45 you would spend a lot of time just getting to it that might be wasted.

Good luck!

(Full disclosure....I live nowhere near there so others can chime in with more firsthand experience!)

League City/Clear Lake/Dickinson is your best bet. Once they get done with the NASA Parkway (is that what we're calling it now?) construction, the Gulf Freeway should be manageable all the way to downtown. You can't get lost. Just follow the freeway toward the skyline.

I like in Clear Lake, about 10 minutes from NASA and Baybrook Mall. I can get to downtown or Galveston within half an hour from here, depending on the day and time, so I'd recommend a place near El Dorado/Bay Area.

There's lots of good choices in between your two workplaces. Clear Lake, Seabrook, Friendswood, etc. With a little luck you can hit the midpoint.
