Did a search and came up with suggestions farther away (for the most part.) Wondering if anyone can give me some ideas...

Looking for something to do the second weekend of Spring Break (March 18-20.) Don't want to be in the car for the 3-5 hours that Austin, San Antonio, Fredericksburg, other Hill Country destinations or New Orleans would take.

What I'm looking for:

Quiet and maybe even no kids. Don't want something like Lost Pines in Bastrop (which is probably sold out that weekend.) Saw a place called Blisswood near Sealy that looked like it might fit that.

Walking and/or biking trails nearby. Thought about looking at areas/around Sam Houston National Forest, either near Montgomery/Willis or Lake Livingston.

Cabin/Cottage. Don't mind cooking the meals. Doesn't really matter if there's a ton of stuff around to eat at anyways. I don't need 5 star restaurants. Thought about looking for a condo/beach house in or near Galveston. Even though it will be Spring Break, I know some of the rentals are still available. A bed and breakfast isn't out either but I don't want to be a 150 sq foot room with a double bed crammed into it.

Been to Blisswood. Best time to go there is when the wildflowers bloom in the Spring. It's literally in the middle of nowhere, but still very enjoyable. LOTS of places to go walking there.

Brenham is a nice town with lots of places that may meet your criteria. We stayed at a ranch B&B there with tons of space, but I forgot the name.

Depending on where you live & what direction you head, 60-90 minutes might not even get you out of Houston.

But the closest things I can think of are:

Big Thicket / Village Creek State Park\
Sea Rim Park (park open during the day only.. got crushed by Ike and Rita)
Lake Livingston / Sam Houston National Forest
Lake Somerville State Park
Brazos Bend (more of a day trip)
The Woodlands Resort & Conference center
Stay in downtown Houston for a few nights
Check VRBO.com for rentals if you're interested in Galveston/Surfide/etc.

I am a regular user of VRBO. For Galveston, there are a lot of choices. Other places near Houston... Not so much.

Found some place per a friends recommendation but I also saw this place (The Retreat at Artesian Lakes 832-397-4008) earlier today. They were booked for what I wanted my free weekend but I'll check them out again.
