Hello everyone, we will be relocating to Houston this year. We have an 8 and 4 year old. My husband will be working on the south part of Houston (zip code 77033). We were looking for a family friendly area, maybe a water community if there are any. Sugar Land perhaps (that was the only areas i've looked into). Gated community would be a plus. School district is important or we may look at Catholic school. Any advice would be welcome.

I would be looking for somewhere with no longer than a 30-40 minute commute. I heard the Woodlands is beautiful but that is too far. Thanks

What price range are you looking in? Sugar Land will probably be on the edge of that commute time. Pearland or inner loop is going to be closer.

There are close to 25 properties in close proximity to that area right now that meet your criteria, but none in that particular zip code. You can get a lot of house for that price range in the Houston area.

A Realtor will be able to help you research schools and narrow down a good community for you and your family.

Well welcome to Houston in advance! We actually have some friends that did the opposite a couple years ago... they moved to Chicago from Houston and we do miss them! But anyhow...when will you be moving? When will you be able to come and look? If you want water, yes, there is Clear Lake, there is also Seabrook Island... there's several areas on that side to consider actually. The Woodlands is nice but way too far a commute for you.

I think that Clear Lake, Pearland and Sugarland would be a good fit for your family. The reason behind it is location and commute. Good luck.

I would love to move this summer before school starts. It depends on selling our house. We are coming in 2nd weekend of April to look.

I would strongly consider knocking your target down to mid 400s as you will likely be in shock as to what you can get for 450k in Houston compared to Chicago.
