My girlfriend and I are looking to buy an entry level home somewhere in the 100,000 to 150,000 range. We are both in our early twenties. I really like the mcm houses in Glenbrook Valley, but she works in Westchase and I am a grad student at UH. Is it completely unrealistic to be looking there? Does anyone know of any areas we should be looking at? Architecturally I like mid century, but I also like craftsmen style homes. I originally wanted to be inside the loop, but I haven't found any that I remotely like within our price range. Does anyone know any areas inside the loop that would fit these criteria. I am looking for house that needs some work, but not structurally, mostly cosmetic. As far as size goes, we want between 1500 and 2000 square feet with some kind of yard. I am basically looking for advice from anyone who will give it. We moved here from California almost a year ago and are looking to buy after July or August.

I'd check out Robindell. We live here in a Midcentury modest home and love it. I saw one today on HAR that needed A LOT of work but has great bones for $53,000. I've seen others in the $120 - $150 range. There's one on the corner of Robindell and Birdwood that's been completely renovated. I think its For Sale by owner for about $140. It's a great neighborhood with mature trees and an active civic club. Should note that it's outside the loop.

That's for the recommendations so far.

@samurai I found that house. I am going to look at it this weekend.

Got to HoustonMod - Preserving Our Modern Legacy and look under "modern in Houston" then click on "available mod properties." The mid-century moderns have been culled out for you.

Obviously Glenbrook would be great access for UH, but not so much for Westchase, although one could take the beltway.

Mods exist on the west side in that price range, typically in the southern sections of Westbury, as well as Robindell, Sharpstown & Tanglewilde. Arts and Crafts style no.

You can find bungalow, arts and crafts style throughout the east end of the inner loop, check 77023.

No offense, but an early 20's couple buying a house together sounds like a sure recipe to end up on Judge Judy. You sure you're not better off just renting a house together? Or does one of you have a stable enough career to take the full liability on alone?
