When you get the opinions of non-Houstonians, it really seems to put things in perseptive. Wonder why

Whatever man. Considering there are thousands of universities, a top 50 ranking is very impressive and guaranteed to get you places anywhere in the nation. Rice is often said in the same breath as universities like Northwestern, Vanderbilt, UChicago, and Duke. UT is often mentioned in the same sentence as schools like Michigan, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Georgia Tech. As someone who just went through an extensive college search, I feel pretty confident that I know what I'm talking about.

As someone who actually has a degree from a top university (Berkeley), an undergrad degree from a fancy university is little more than a basic door opener. Grad school is a different story. The guy (or gal) with an undergrad degree from U Houston who can produce results, navigate a corporate bureaucracy or otherwise prove they can deliver the goods is much more valuable than a d-bag who thinks he is hot stuff because he went to a top-20 school.

What would be considered Long Beach in the Houston area? Orange County? Glendale? Hollywood? Inglewood? Compton?

So, Giovanni -- the dude I met @ East/West Lounge in WeHo -- just called and he said that H-Town & LA share lots of similarities.
