As someone who actually has a degree from a top university (Berkeley), an undergrad degree from a fancy university is little more than a basic door opener. Grad school is a different story. The guy (or gal) with an undergrad degree from U Houston who can produce results, navigate a corporate bureaucracy or otherwise prove they can deliver the goods is much more valuable than a d-bag who thinks he is hot stuff because he went to a top-20 school.
