Hummm... not true. Besides Comcast, there are also choices of Dish Network, U-verse (AT&T), Direct TV, etc.. The apartment I used to live allowed dish sattelite of your choice. Whereas, my mom's apartment only allows U-verse cable.

Houston_Alex, I've not heard of AC cycling neither. Perhaps, the best thing to do is call the apartment in the areas of your choice and ask. There are several websites that can help you find apartments in those areas:

You just listed things that aren't cable. And U-Verse isn't cable, it's through a phone provider. Dish/DirectTV is not cable.

And I should rephrase what I said. Only one cable company is in any given area like phone service.

If you're looking for a 2 bedroom place in Montrose or the Heights, you should probably be more worried about the rent vs. the AC bill.

We have a third floor 2 bedroom apartment, with 1200 sq. ft. Our highest electric bill has been $130 and our lowest $50. We pay 11.9 cents per kilowatt (100% renewable). We don't set the AC all that low, keep it at 74 and we're always comfortable.

Our cable bill is $85/mo.
We have community split water, gas, trash, pest control and sewage, that is anywhere between $40 and $55 a month.

Hope that helps!

If you buy a Roku for $100 you can get Netflix ($8/month) and Hulu Plus ($8 month) streamed to your tv and get almost every show and tons of movies and wouldn't need cable.

Is it fair to say that since its pretty mild year round and hot during the summer months, I would expect the electric bill to be at least $500/month?
