My family and I are relocating to Houston from Germany and we´re not sure what area is best for us. We lived in Katy for one year in 1998 but I felt like a stepford wife there and contrary to other posts I´ve read, I wasn´t impressed with the elementary school at that time. I liked the memorial area back then because of its international elegant flair. I have also read that Memorial High School is quite recommended, however we are not millionaires and already have another home in Germany we must continue paying. Could someone please tell me if there are any affordable homes in the area or if another part of Hpuston has the feel of memorial but the prices found in Katy?
Although we are native Texans (El Paso) (except my husband who is German)and raised Catholic we are not extremely religious nor very conservative. My children who are now teens were raised in Germany and have attended school there up until now and so many of these bible study areas are not really our thing. Please don´t get me wrong, I have a deep faith in God as do my children and I definately do not wish to offend anyone, but such areas just make me feel uncomfortable.
Thank you in advance!

Enrollment

You need to find a house in the school attendance zone:
Memorial serves students in all of the Memorial Villages (including Bunker Hill Village, Hedwig Village, Hilshire Village, Spring Valley Village, and most of Hunters Creek Village and Piney Point Village). While the school has a Houston address, it is located in the city of Hedwig Village and it draws from a small portion of Houston in the Memorial and Spring Branch regions (including Afton Village, Brykerwoods, Monarch Oaks, Sandalwood, and portions of Westview Terrace). A section of the Memorial City district is within the school's attendance zone.
Check www.har.com by zip code or above neighborhoods/subdivisions.

There are less* expensive townhomes and apartments also zoned to Memorial in the area and almost all of the memorial neighborhoods all the way out to the beltway are zoned to Memorial (the other side of the beltway goes to Stratford for the most part).

*relatively speaking...what's your budget?

Yes. Financial records of the parents are checked before the student is admitted

Try the Pines, Somerset or Ethans Glen. All zoned to frostwood, memorial jr and sr high. $225k or less. Townhomes only...probably no yard.

Alternately, you can also submit a video of yourself lighting cigars with $100 bills or diving into a vault of gold al la Scrooge McDuck.

In US, once you go out into countryside, it becomes very conservative. People r nice but very very different than
you would find in any part of Europe. A good way to choose a neighborhood for a European is to find a location that welcomes
different nationalities and ethnicity. You don't want to be the only German family with 5 miles! It would get lonely in a hurry
and will make you homesick.

In general the better schools are in more expensive areas. This is not just in Houston.
