As for as higher education. Rice, UT and A&M rank higher than anything Colorado has to offer.

I hear this a lot...HOWEVER..there is a fundamental philosophical difference here. When you tax my income, you are basically punishing me by making more money..almost taking some of the incentive away from increasing your income.
When you tax my purchases and property, I have a CHOICE in both of those. If I don't want to pay a certain amount in taxes, I CHOOSE to purchase a smaller, less expensive home. If I don't like the 8.25% sales tax on the Sony Big Screen, I may have to settle for the Samsung.
LOL, No one ever want to mention that you will receive a STATE tax refund if eligible.

If you don't want to pay the high sales tax do what I do and buy everything from amazon.com.

I think this claim may be dubious. Don't forget that Colorado does have:

U.S. Air Force Academy
Colorado College
University of Colorado
Denver University

While I'm not claiming that UT, Rice and A&M may not rank higher in some categories than the Colorado schools, I don't think that an "across the board" statement is correct.

According to the U.S. News and World Report the University of Denver ranks 84th amongst National Public and Private Universities, University of Colorado ranks 77th, Colorado College only ranks high amongst other liberal arts colleges. Not sure about Air Force Acadamy. Rice Ranks 17th, UT ranks 47th and A&M ranks 61. So going by their rankings(I know that there not perfect) Texas schools are better than Colorado's

If you know the ranks are not perfect, why even mentioning it?

But!... before even worrying about college education, you'd need to worry about your children current education levels. If you don't have a good basic education for your children, then considering on how good a college or university is would be quite redudant. The better the foundation they obtain now, the easier they would have when they go into college.

The John Cooper school in TW has a 100% college placement rate for graduates. TW and Kingwood both have excellent Montessori schools (School of the Woods and Pines). The public schools are also good in both areas.

I have been in Houston about a year and a half. No, I wouldn't move from CO to Houston.

I made the move here from Colorado 15 years ago. No, I would not do it again, by any measure. (And if it weren't for true love, I'd have never done it in the first place either.)
