Default Woodwind Lakes knowledge requested...

I'm new to Houston and would appreciate some advice from our resident experts about the Woodwind Lakes subdivision. Any feedback you can give on the following would be appreciated since the search engine and Google were light on info.

1) This neighborhood seems very nice but how's the crime? (Some of the surrounding areas aren't quite as nice looking.)

2) What police force covers this area? (Searching for crime stats on the Houston city site shows it as white area...which makes it appear that they don't cover it.)

3) Has this corner of the city been getting better or worse since this subdivision was built in the early 90's?

Anything else you want to add would be appreciated. I'd like to know all the goods and bads before I spend a lot of time focused on this area.

Thanks!

Houston - News - Woodwind Lakes subdivision built on oil and gas field turns on neighbor who pointed out the contamination

Is this the same place?

A former oil refinery site does not a good suburban development make. No problem.

Interestingly, I had to do some work on Google to get that article to pull up...I've got a copy of that HP edition laying around somewhere...

No it sure doesn't. I have been reading this forum for months and recall a thread where someone said the
names of many streets, particularly the hyphenated ones, related to the oil fields they used to connect.
That concept really hits home now in light of the info you provided.

It's really a shame because there are some beautiful looking houses in that subdivision. I feel bad for
the folks discussed in the article and those still there in general.

Thanks again for finding and sharing that info with me.

You've got plenty of options...

What is especially offputting - not finding out unscrupulous builders might have knowingly put a development on a hazardous site - that's one thing, because there are people who will do anything to make a buck. It is the way the HOA there greedily tried to pretend nothing's wrong and keeping sending their kids to play out there.

I suppose their home investment was more important to them than their childrens' health and that of their own. Those people are disgusting.

I agree. I am half way through the article and am just shaking my head. This is truly an amazing saga. The HOA nonsense and the number of folks who wouldn't allow testing is beyond my ability to comprehend.

What also amazes me is that there's still no requirement for disclosure of this issue. I thought for sure my buyers agent would notify me of this issue. I am cautious by nature, doubly so right now.

Houston is an awesome city. As you said there are many options here. I'll just keep looking. Thankfully anyone searching here for info on this area will be well informed.

It's a shame about Woodwind Lakes, because it really is a beautiful community. I understand that its a certain section of the neighborhood that is problematic (around 40 homes according to research done using old aerial photos revealing the location of the old gas processing plant) not the entire development. With that said, it's worth doing your homework.

Yes it sure is sad Mr. Football. I really liked some of the homes I drove by this afternoon doing my research.

In the article it talks about the developer taking some of the contaminated earth and using it for the community areas and in some backyards. Too dicey a proposition for me. With my luck I'd be right at toxic ground zero. :-)

BTW, I wanted to tell you that your recent post about lake communities was superb. I took the info and did some searches on HAR. Those recommendations have been bumped up to the top of my list now that Woodwind's out. Thanks for the info!
