I have just relocated to Houston from out of state and searching for and ISD which will be very accomodative and excellent for my children. My 4 yr old son is a high functioning autistic in the public education system over there. A speech pathology and a teacher attend to him 3x/week at home. He is doing very great. Right now I am in Houston and I'm in the process of looking for a place to rent and bringing my family here. I am interested in Klein ISD for my two girls, who are going to fourth and third grades. My question is that, is KISD has an excellent special needs program for children with learning and speech disability needs? And if not, will you please give me other recomended ISD system. Please help.

It is getting to where you will have to contact the various ISDs to try and determine that, due to all of the lay-offs that are currently happening.

For example, Spring Branch had an excellent reputation for that, but I don't know how the teacher cut-backs will affect it.

Stay out of Klein if you have anything other than Beaver and Wally Cleaver. They are very good with kids who follow instruction.
Special needs, not so much. My grandson has Asperger's and we would not let him anywhere near Klein ISD.
There are several places in Houston that are excellent for your needs. Somebody on the forum can tell you.
I have lived in Klein for 12 years. The thing that got me interested in the schools was the day an Austistic kid lost it in his understaffed and untrained classroom. They called the cops, who tie wrapped the kids's hands behind his back, threw him face down on the floor terrified him to the point that he peed his pants, and waited for his momma to come get him. They said they were afraid he would hurt some one. The district spokesperson, Liz Johnson said that was the only remedy allowed the district by the feds. That was 10 years ago, and there have been no changes.
These people are Neanderthals when it comes to special needs. After years spent going to every Board and every other kind of meeting, I can't even say they are well intentioned.
Check today's paper for the Children at Risk scores. After several hundred years of public education in the USA, most districts have not figure out how to teach poor kids. Klein gets a gold star from me for being willfully obtuse.
Cheryjohns is correct. Check out Spring Branch.
