Houston Church Lowers Gas Price For 2 Hours - Local News - Houston, TX - msnbc.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42732023 - broken link)

I can't believe what we're getting for what we're paying at the pump these days. Seems like the prices are going up 10 cents every week which would mean we'll hit $4 in a couple of weeks. Lowest I've seen is at a Murray Express yesterday for 3.63/g while most others in the area are .10cents more.

And yes...I am well aware that we pay far less for gas than in other countries (where many cities in several of those countries are more walkable and people have alternative modes of transport - mass transit, taxis, mopeds, etc...).

That's a nice gesture.
But shouldn't churches help people in need such as single mothers, children in poor neighborhoods, senior citizens, etc, etc.
Instead of people that have cars and trucks with V8, V10 and V12 engines? (8-12mpg)

Part of a good church is getting God's message out to the masses and sometimes that message changes. This is an annual thing they do so I'm sure it isn't the only outreach project they have. It's about reaching the most and largely diverse group you can.

High fuel prices are your future. Houston's autocentric model of life isn't sustainable.

Plus anything which gets waddlers out of their cars and using the stumpy appendages at the end of their ambulatory limbs is a good thing.

I can't wait until 'gas' costs $20 a gallon.......

As I use about 4 gallons a month in Porsche for leisure purposes I wouldn't care if it cost $100 a gallon, it would keep the morons who like to text and use their cellphones off the road.

The owner of this $120,000 car will be thanking that church for a long time.

BMW 760Li = V12, 15mpg (combined)

Agree. They are free to do what they want with their member's money (hope they took a vote) - but they made a choice of discounting gas for someone's Hummer over feeding hungry children?

Please Cheryjohns it's not an either or scenario. Most churches have a multitude of outreach programs that the church deems good outreach programs that they feel show god's love and brings more people to know him and get in church. Don't turn a great showing by a local church into a "they chose a hummer over a starving baby". It's not that type of issue.
