Before you get to Pearland you have to go through the "'hood" of East End/Hobby Airport, which will NEVER get Whole Foods or TJ's.

HEB and Walmart will send them back packing in 5 years.
Not really, so many people from California and the West have moved here. They alone will support it, plus there's the "Austin wanna-be" hipster crowd who will LOVE TJ's. If TJ's goes to Austin they will be VERY well received there, BTW, even though it has the "flagship" locations of Whole Foods AND Central Market.

Trader Joes is a different concept compared with any of the companies already in Texas including Whole Foods and Central Market. They mostly specialize in take away frozen food and alcohol (kind of like Spec's).

Anyways I have tried some of their products before on the East Coast and I have to say they were pretty good.

Perhaps your statement needs a bit of clarification:

(1) Please note that not all parts of the East End are the "hood".

(2) There is no need to go through Houston's East End to reach Pearland.

(3) When discussing any kind of retail in Houston, never say "NEVER".

Whole Foods quarterly profits were 33% up from last yr. I never understood how they get so much business, things are way over priced and the wholistic/organic stuff are overhyped. I can afford their prices but I just don't see the need, I go there once a year at best. And as for the pagan music selection and junk hand crafted stuff, please. I'd rather go to the Farmers market or crafts festivals and get the good stuff and support the farmers/artists directly. I really tried to like WF but gave up on it. Hoping I'd like TJ much better.

Mostly agreed, but if you have people in your family with specialty diets such as food allergies, you would be thanking your lucky stars that such a store exists so your children can eat
