The media hypes these storms so much. Hurricanes are what Dave Ward & Neil Frank live for - to scare you out of your PJ's.

I've lived through several major storms without crying my way out of the city. I know ALOT of people here and have never known anyone (personally) to die as a result of a hurricane. However, I can say I've been to 3 funerals for friends in DUI "accidents" under the age of 30 in the last 7 years here in Houston.

Be more concerned about your neighbor having a few shots of tequila before heading home. Stay inside of (your well built) home during a hurricane & you'll be better off than coming home from a family dinner down I-10 at 8:45 on a Thursday night.

My kit includes:

bottled water
bread
crappy snack food
generator
extra gas (for above gadget)
a few box fans
zip locks frozen solid with water
a sense of humor

I'd welcome one now, we need the rain.

Yep, I agree! A sense of humor is a must too!
