Budget cuts. Oh, and the motto "Serve and Protect" was recently changed to "Rape and Pillage".

arent DWI deaths a pandemic in this city? we lead the nation! that is not awesome

i am guessing that is one large reason why so many HPD are on the roadways

in feb the HPD announced a new crackdown on the roadways to prevent some of these deaths. they had something like 100 arrest in 3 days. thank you for making our roadways safer!

It's called revenue, the city needs cash. Meanwhile as these police sit under the freeway at the u-turn trying to catch people with expired tags and people speeding. The real criminals murderers, rapist, child molesters, home burglars have free reign.

Yeah I know. Coming back from the loop last night, there were at least six or seven cops on I-10 between 610 in Katy. And they stay on both sides of the freeway with their guns out. They are READY.

The effect is certainly noticeable. Took the whole family downtown one day last week and they were all wondering where all the crazy drivers were that day. It's almost unusual now to be passed by somebody weaving in and out of traffic at 20-30 over the speed limit.

sure, but what is sad, is that this tactic is like shooting fish in a barrel for them. They wouldn't waste their time doing it if it weren't so lucrative. If there weren't so many losers out there driving without insurance, or up to date inspections, tags , or whatever, the alternative would be to jack up the tax rates once again to cover the shortfall. That would be fine, except the clowns that complain the most about getting tickets for things that everybody else has to comply with, are the ones that b*tch about city services they don't help pay for anyway.

To be fair, a lot of that weaving and swerving can be avoided if people wouldn't drive slower in the left lanes. Stay to the right if you're around the speed limit.
