I got a teaching job at UH and I am looking to move back to the Medical center area. I would take S or N Macgregor from either the area right by Hermann park, or Binz to get to the University. I am going to check out the Mosaic, Lofts at HP, etc. Some of my research may net me some late hours, would MacGregor be an okay area to drive through around ~midnight?

There is a certain level of danger driving around at midnight anywhere but it should be okay. It is mostly residential with pretty nice homes. There are a couple or rough but small complexes at certain points along N. MacGregor but other than that it should be fine.

Overall, it's a pretty safe and quiet area. You should have no issues driving through the area at midnight; I'd be more concerned with UH campus as you leave. While it's relatively safe; you still should be on the cautious side.

Macgregor is a decently traveled street with nice homes on both sides. I'd worry if it was full of stop signs through a rough area.

^^^ Agree. UH Campus at that time is something to be concerned about. See if you can get a security escort or something if you're walking to your car that late.

That's putting it mildly. I'd be on the totally hypervigilant side.

You think so???? I don't think the area is that dangerous. You just have to be careful.

We get notices on campus not infrequently that someone has been mugged at gunpoint or knifepoint, or car jacked/abducted, etc. It is most definitely a dangerous campus. One of the biggest problems UH has yet to deal with.

I walk all over that campus at night and it's not dangerous. I've never been mugged, beat, shot, stabbed, raped and more. You have to had lived a very sheltered life to believe the UH campus is dangerous. 3rd Ward itself isn't even that dangerous.
