Default New study shows TX beaches cleaner than CA ones

A new study on water quality of beaches throughout the United States just came out. I have read some posts from California transplants who believed that California beaches are cleaner than Texas ones. Turns out Texas is cleaner:

NRDC: Testing the Waters 2007 - A Guide to Water Quality at Vacation Beaches

Galveston Island appears to be the dirtiest, but still only half as bad as most beaches in Santa Monica Bay.

I was interested to have a look at the link, and was happy to find that the beaches I use (Newport/Huntington) are relatively clean, similar to Galveston.
There isn't much of a "shelf" in front of California, so deep water and currents keep it pretty clean. I was glad to see that.
As for Santa Monica Bay, ugh, I didn't need a report to keep me away from that place. Rather swim in the Cuyahoga River.

I'm moving soon to Houston. I've seen pictures and film of the beaches on Padre island, are the beaches closer up to Houston calm like that? And of course the scene in "terms of Endearment" where Nicholson drives all over the beach, I assume it's near Houston.
Would be great for my littlest children.

Thanks for the interesting link.

When I lived in Southern California I would make the extra drive either up towards Zuma or down to the OC beaches.

The Gulf is a lot calmer than the Pacific. Whenever the waves get above 2 feet Surfside Beach is packed with surfers.

The beach scene in TOE was filmed in Texas City, if I am not mistaken.
