Need help finding an apartment in Northwest Houston (Jersey Village, Prairie View: apartments, homes)

We will be moving to Houston and need to find an apartment in Northwest Houston. My wife works in Downtown and needs to commute daily. I work in Prairie View, which is about 40 miles northwest of downtown Houston and I would commute on 290. Since my wife is communting to downtown, we think it would be better that she communtes less distance than I do (Traffic should not be as bad communting to Prairie View)

Areas along highway 290 (between west loop and beltway 8) seems to be good. However, we do want to find an apartment in a safe and nice area. Can anyone recommend some areas where we could find a nice apartment and have a relatively smooth commuting?

I used to live in NW Houston. I commuted downtown for work & to PV a couple days/week for class. I lived off Jones Road/West Road. There are some nice apts in that area. It was also right by the Northwest Park & Ride (Route 214). So i was able to take the P&R downtown for work which was REALLY a timesaver.

Check on Pinnacle Apts. on Huffmeister or there are a few good ones at West and the Beltway and Jones/290.

I don't deal with a lot of apartments, but when you look at an apartment and a home side-by-side for the same price, the home usually wins. Take a look at Jersey Village a lot of homes around $975.
