This isn't a direct democracy. Not everything gets or even deserves to be decided on by popular vote or opinion.

Yeah thats what the British said, before the Colonists started dumping tea into the ocean. That type of attitude is what starts revolutions and gets governments overthrown.

I agree. The red light cameras are nothing but a scam. They decrease t-bone accidents but increase rear-ending type accidents. All in all a wash, but the city comes out on top via a revenue stream, not to mention the private company that runs these things.

I'm pretty sure our Founding Fathers said the same thing.

I find it funny on how A LOT of you talk smack about "hating the government, Annise Parker, taxes etc..." but yet remain seated behind a computer. If you feel strongly about it, do something about it.

Talk is cheap!

I never said that "every vote counts..." it never has and it never will. I hope you don't think that you still elect the president of the USA...

We did, we signed a petition to remove them and turned out to vote. Don't worry, I am sure more things are coming.

It wound up being an illegal vote. I'm not happy about it either, but that's the way it is. Also, keep in mind that if we break the contract, we are on the hook for 16 million dollars. Seeing that Houston residents scream bloody murder every time a fee or tax is even suggested, I would imagine it would be difficult to come up with this money.

Also, quit blaming Parker. She inherited this mess.

That figure is from ATS, city attorney said it wasn't even close to the actual number. While the contract and cameras were up before Parker was in office she worked with ATS to get this outcome, and is turning back on the cameras against the will of the people. She also flat out lied, she said the suit was to defend the election and that no matter what the judge said the cameras wouldn't come back on. She is a demonstrated liar.
