Default Borders will be no more......

Borders will soon be liquidating all of its stores. I know there has to be some in Houston, obviously, Houston will be affected.

Borders liquidation could provide opportunities *| ajc.com

I used to spend time in the Borders store on Kirby and West Alabama.

No idea if it's still there.

People dont read books as much as they used to. Books are old media, going the way of vhs and vinyl records. Times change.

Add to that the fact that manipulation of information ("truth") and mass distribution of soft copies is way easier.

i dont know if i will ever get into reading a book off a computer/hand held screen. i like the physical presence of a book, the smell, being able to browse a collection, turning the pages, ease of flipping through pages to look at footnotes/citations, and being able to highlight and make notes in the margins.

maybe im a snob but i also just like looking at all my books

I think I have a $25 gift card... I guess I better use it quick.

A bit sad for me. Borders is from my hometown, Ann Arbor, MI. The flagship store in downtown Ann Arbor is around the corner from the small mom & pop grocery store I worked at in HS and college... so I would frequently go there and hang out on lunch breaks. Corporate headquarters is still in Michigan... so more job loss for an already hemorrhaging state.
