Massages are $100, shows are somewhere between $50 and $100. You can eat for peanuts or spend $100 a pop, just depends on where you eat and what you drink. Also depends on how much you plan on losing / gambling.

Don't expect to win. Few do. Those who say they do have indeed won money but they lost twice what they won. They did not build those high dollar casinos by paying out winnings.

Don't venture off the strip as LV is just a crime infested hell hole once outside of the tourist trap. Everything is grossly overpriced. Gone are the $3 buffets to draw you in so you can gamble. All the casino hotels are over $200 per night except if you can find some package deal which is not a deal at all.

Taxis are crooks who take you out of the way to add to the tab. You will be offered all kinds of money by men for sex. You will be offered jobs in the sex industry. I'm saying this because you are female. I have other things to say if you were a man. Pamphlets for sex will be jammed into your chest whether you grab them or not is up to you as you walk the strip.

As in any big city, keep your guard up. Do not look up and point at the pretty buildings which shows you are a tourist and make you a target of thieves. Legit massages are available in every hotel for $100 on up. On the streets in front of every light pole are those offering them for less and for twice the time.

If you wish to go to a night club you better be hot hot hot as average girls are not allowed in and as a guy you better be hot hot hot too or you also don't get in. If you are allowed in as a guy, you will be expected to tip the bouncer a very large bill. Girls usually don't need to tip but sometimes are asked to the back room for entry and guess what's next. Yes nightlife is for the ultra beautiful only and you must have money and be willing to put out.

Also know that the official temperature by the National Weather service in Las Vegas is misleading. The official temp is taken in the coolest part of the valley. Whatever you hear on the news you can add 6 to 8 degrees. Most of the summer it is reported 116 degrees when the actual temp is 124. This is done so as not to scare tourists. 124 sounds pretty scary but we all survived it. It does sound better at 116 to a tourist wanting to visit though.

What do I know? I lived there for a long time. No I'm lying. I existed there for a long time. I helped build that city from 400,000 to over 2 million population. I was involved in the entertainment industry and well inside the inner circles that tourists never see and will not find out.

As a tourist you should have fun. Just be aware and watch your back and you will have a good time. Don't trust the pigs either. If you need directions or help, ask a hotel clerk, never a pig. Good luck.

Just curious, how long did you live in Las Vegas? All cities have their bad parts of town, just like Houston, even Katy. Anyway, 'sounds like you had a bad personal experience in Vegas.

Might as well fly in style if more than 4 of you. We did it from the Sugarland airport and we had a blast.

I lived in Las Vegas from 2001 - 2009 and loved every day I was there. I only moved back to Houston to take care of my elderly parents. When they pass, I'm moving right back to Vegas.

There are nice hotels on the strip for a reasonable amount, unless you go on a weekend or during the holidays. If you want everything 5 star, then you'll pay the big bucks. If you want a nice 3-4 star trip, try some of the local places. They have very nice spas, restaurants, etc. at a lower price.

There are deals everywhere. Just do some research online and you'll be fine.

Wow, heck of a take on Vegas. I don't live there, but I do go several times a year, and I don't see this at all.

Overpriced? Sure, MUCH is. There are places that suck in the big money people. But Vegas has lots of bargains if you look for them. Cheap meals, cheap tickets to shows, etc. Just takes some work and googling.

I know Vegas well enough that I know if a cab is cheating me, and I never tell them I'm a repeat visitor. And I always take cabs (never rent a car in Vegas unless you have a specific purpose for one). And I can't recall a single case of gouging. Guess I'm lucky.

You will see the sex pamphlets handed out (we call them the "snapper" guys). But I've never heard of anyone being offered a sex job. I go with my wife about half the time, and she's never ever had a problem like this.

I look up at the big, new, bright & shiny buildings ALL the time. I AM a visitor, so I look. Never been mugged or accosted (I'm 5.8, weigh 160--I'm a shrimpie guy).

Depends on the night club. Most, but not all, will let anyone in if they are dressed appropriately (although the line may be loooong). Only the VERY hottest ones limit who gets in. And you don't need to put out ANYWHERE.

True this! Summer in Vegas is like an oven. Much much hotter than it sounds. They tell you it's a "dry heat". That means the humidity is low. HA! Stick your head in an oven--that's also a dry heat.

I never go in the summer. You can't walk outside without being miserable within minutes. And part of the attraction to me of Vegas is walking around.

I've never found the police to be ANYTHING but helpful. They know tourists pay their salaries. Of course, I don't taunt them or act staggeringly drunk in public either. Maybe they would treat me different if I did.

[Aside: You should be aware desertsun41 has a rep on this forum for being an avid police hater. I only mention this so you can take his reply in context.]

Have fun, Las Vegas is a GREAT city to visit. If you do gamble, only play what you are willing to lose. And enjoy the night life!
