Default Tips on choosing an electricty service provider!!!

Hello All,
We arein process of choosing an energy provider. Can anyone please give us any tips and suggestions on what to ask and what to look out for. Any suggestions on people's preffered service provider i will close on a home in August 28th in cinco ranch 77494.

I do see a list through powertochoose.org however when ic all teh companies they tell me the rates posted are just intro rates which fluctuates. We are cfrom cali and didnt experience choosing a service provider for enegery yet.

If anyone there knows of any good rates and what reliable companies to try I am open to suggestions.
Thank you so much in advance

Default need info too

I'm glad you posted this question.. We wont be in our new house till anywhere from Oct to De. but we are in 77494 zip code too(firethrone).. anyway the house we are building has alot of the energy saving features but its a monster its nearly 4600 sq ft.. so I want to find the most afforable reliable electric provider. I also looked at that site but it meant gibberish to me LOL. We live in FL right now and we are in a house 3100 sq ft(built in 2002) and my last months bill was nearly 500!! OUCH.. So any help which one would be the best choice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I like First Choice Power. I've been with then since July last year and haven't had a complaint. I'm also paying a lot less than my neighbors.

I didn't post anything right away because we just bought our house in Cinco Ranch/77494 so I don't have a comparison for utilitiy bills for a house just yet. My husband just stayed with Dynowatt because that's who we used in our apartment in Houston. Our July bill was $142 including a flat $4.95 charge and $5 in taxes. We're paying $0.1325 per kWh. We had a small 2 bedroom apt. and tried to keep the a/c at 78-80 but we did laundry almost everyday.

Yes!! We have a natural fireplace for night lights, a wood burning cooking stove, oil lanterns, candles, and 10 foot ceilings with fabulously huge windows to let the breeze come in the mornings. We scrub our clothes and line dry. Buy dry ice or a day's worth of food. Battery powered laptop to check out City-Data and then recharge it at work. Yes, it's just like in great-grandma's old farmhouse in the west. Electric bills - $0.

Bike4Life - your post made me laugh. My only comment which is kind of obvious is instead of cranking up the A/C, I use a box fan in my bedroom and the overhead fans.

I had four different companies in my years in Texas and was not thrilled with any of them. Make a decision based upon rate and contract but be sure you can switch without charge if you get a rate that changes.

All the electric providers are ripping us consumers off. They all get their power from the same source. In terms of making a decision by comparing the providers visit Texas Electric Choice | Home. IMO, they all are scams trying to lure you in by quoting low $$$ based on kilowat usage, but they're all high regardless.

I've been here two years and with Reliant. I didn't do the shopping around thing, because i'm not to keen on giving out my social security numbers and having my credit run a thousand times for the sake a a few dollars difference.

I will say that this summer my bills are alot less than they were last year, but it could be because I purchased a new a.c. system and because I filed 2 complaints with the PUC regarding Reliant's inconsistency on my billing vs. my actual usage
