Default Need help commute humble to deer park?

I have a job in Deer Park and I'm trying to find some more housing options. We have looked at areas like Pearland and League City but we are looking for more options if there are any. Would commuting down from the north be reasonable? IE 45 minutes or less during rush hour?

Thanks for the help!
Other suggestions are more then welcome as well!

Go to Houston Transtar and look at the traffic during the times you would be commuting. Don't do it on Fridays as that is misrepresentative due to lighter traffic.

We live in Atascocita (Humble area) and my husband works off of 225 at one of the refineries. Currently he takes the Beltway --> Alt 90 --> I10 --> 610 --> 225 because he's a lot closer to 610 than the beltway. He also takes CE King Parkway down to the ship channel a lot as well. But occasionally he takes the beltway in. Takes him about 30-45 minutes depending on the route, day of the week, and time of day.

You could easily take the beltway around to 225 and get to Deer Park. The beltway is now completed and very quick to get around. You would have a couple of tolls (the bridge being the most expensive). I am not sure what your budget is, but some neighborhoods I would look into are:

Summerwood (easiest/fastest commute to the Beltway)
Fall Creek is right off the beltway, but closer to 59
Eagle Springs
Lakeshore
Water's Edge

Why would you choose any place besides League City

Seriously though - you can drive up to Bay Area Blvd or Nasa Rd and then to Space Center Blvd and on to Deer Park - never touching a freeway. There's lots of stoplights, but traffic always keeps moving. Freeways get clogged. A lot. It can be boom or bust. Bay Area Blvd gets loads of traffic, but keeps on truckin. I know this because I live in LC, worked on Bay Area Blvd for years, and the girlfriends dad lives in Deer Park.

This is why I love the Beltway around the NE side. Traffic is smooth as butta.

We have definitely looked at League City. What about flooding though? How can I find out about flood zones?

You have to understand about flooding in Houston. Everything floods more or less if it rains enough. The streets in newer areas or that have been rebuilt are designed to be a secondary containment system for floods. This does not mean that your home will flood. So be careful when you ask about flooding and distinguish how bad of a flooding i.e. homes/streets when you ask folks. FEMA maps will have answers to risk areas i.e. 100 yr flood, 500 yr, etc. FEMA Map Service Center - Also make sure your agent checks to see what insurance claims there have been in the past on any house you are thinking of buying. Storm surge is whole different thing from flooding. The map can be found here: http://www.hcoem.org/documents/Hurricanebrochure.pdf

Having said all that. I agree that Summerwood and parts of Atascocita would not be bad if you do not mind paying tolls. Not really a bad trip, only about 30 minutes (not counting navigation through the neighborhood) and traffic is not bad at all. I've done it many times before the toll road was completed.

Flooding like house damage (replacing floors, furniture, etc.) I'm not worried about some flooded roads or some puddling in the yard. We live in coastal Virginia and there are areas that are totally fine like where we live. Some roads might be closed, but our home doesnt flood. Just small puddling in the yard. There are some low lying areas that homes are flooded over and over. I don't want to be stuck with a big headache of insurance claims.
