My husband has taken a job in Deer Park. People seem to really dislike Pasadena, but I am trying to explore all of our housing markets as there doesn't seem to be many options for what we are looking for.

What is the area outside of Sam Houston Toll Road like in Pasadena? Are these nice places to live? or is all of Pasadena terrible?

We are a family with small children so living in a safe neighboorhood is important.

Houston is such a HUGE place with SO many housing options! We just moved here also and my husband works in Galena Park, kinda same area. What are you looking for in a place to live? You said you can't find what you are looking for, so I was wondering what exactly you wanted/needed in a neighborhood.

I wouldn't live in Pasadena due to schools. But that's me.

What are you not liking about the other areas you have researched (League City, Clear Lake, and the NE area if I remember correctly)?

My ds works in Pasadena and lives in Pearland. The commute is not bad and Pearland schools are good. To Deer Park, the commute on the tollway shows 23 minutes. I imagine it would be more in rush hours, but still not too bad.

If you are thinking of Pasadena outside the Beltway, you are thinking the City of Deer Park and the Fairmont section of Pasadena. Deer Park is actually a nice place to live. The community is fairly active with community programs for kids and seniors, a library, and has several safe parks for people and one for dogs, there is also a city pool available during the summer months. What I like (and is not available in a lot of communities) is the twice weekly garbage service with a weekly heavy trash pick up. If you call the police for any reason they are at your doorstep in less than 5 minutes, the volunteer fire department is pretty speedy too as I had cause to find out. The city is well prepared for emergencies as demonstrated after Hurricane Ike. On the down side, area streets and some houses in the older sections will flood if you get a rain of 5 inches per hour (TS Allison and TS Erin) there is a project underway to work on this. Another downside is the chemical plants nearby as some folks pointed out, though they do not cause noticeable problems very often. Crime is fairly low in the area.

I would look in Deer Park vs. Pasadena because the schools are MUCH better and considered a desirable school district. If you look in the Fairmont area of Pasadena -- look at Baywood Shadows or Village Grove areas because even though they have Pasadena addresses they are Deer Park schools. All low crime areas and young family oriented. You could also go down the road a few miles from the fairmont area (3-4 miles) and look in Bay Point, Bay Knoll and Bay something else (all along the Clear Lake City Boulevard area and be in Clear Lake and zoned to Clear Creek ISD - a GREAT school district.
