This was said in an event sponsored by the greater Houston Partnership.

Fuel Fix » Chevron CEO sees U.S. energy “renaissance” with right policies

Implies what is thought of the current group in Washington by the industry.

I find this hilarious

“Even the best of energy companies can perform only as well as the legal and regulatory environment allows,” he said, at a luncheon event downtown hosted by the Greater Houston Partnership, according to an advanced transcript of the speech.

Nobody ever mentions this... regulation create jobs

Same way that EPA regulations create jobs building and maintaining waste water treatment plants (regulating clean water)
Regulations in the oil industry create lots of jobs for manufacturers that build equipment to recycle contaminated drill fluids and to re-use them.

That's just 1 example of jobs created by government regulation of the oil industry.
Why haven't they created jobs with the record profits that they already had in the last 5 years?

Regulations aren't the problem. Over-regulation is. We need to streamline the EPA while not compromising our clean air, water, and land.

Companies' first priority is profitability and they have demonstrated time and time again that they will break or bend the rules. If people and companies would just do what is right, we wouldn't need to protect us from ourselves. You humans are silly.

^^I was hoping you would post that article.

I was surprised at the title, but after reviewing I'm not surprised. Guess why it was 'stopped'. Is it because its good for the air? Uhh Maybe, and its good press against those of us (me included) who think Obama is using the EPA as a political tool in selective industry policing. I'd guess its because each senator and representative has a electricity generating power plant in their district. When job impact hits many congressional districts, 'laws' get stiffer review. No congressman wants to see job prevention in their area. So in this case the air regulations are bad. Get it???

Hmmm...I thought electricity is clean.

Obama still targets the oil industry.

If we build more prisons, that will create more jobs as well.

LOL. Well if the oil industry hadn't majorly screwed up in the gulf then we wouldn't be having this discussion. And I say oil industry because with that big of a screw up they all got spanked.

It certainly would. but then the questions becomes jobs at what expense?

Two to four years top, coming from a reliable source. All the CIO's are already quietly moving to Houston in 2012. There is not much left of Downstream in San Ramon and a lot of IT which is all moving to Houston along with the CIO's. Watson is an Upstream guy and he spent several years in Houston already. They will be building soon in the YMCA empty lot next to the Enron building.

That reminds me of my company several years ago when they moved their HQ from NY to Houston. Nobody imagined Schlumberger to move their HQ to Houston
