Default Kingwood vs Webster

Might be moving to the Houston area for a job and am looking into both Kingwood and Webster.

What are the pros and cons of both locations? I'd be interested in info re: cost of living, activities, restaurants, shopping, nightlife, if young professionals live in the community, and anything else you'd like to share.

Would it be wiser to live in either location or live in Houston and commute to work?

Thanks!

WOW, those are two totally different areas of Houston geographically.

What area are you going to be working in? That will make a huge difference.

I could work in either one, so I'm trying to get a better feel for the areas.

I actually used to live in Houston for a little while, but never made it out to the suburbs so I don't a good idea of my own.

We live next to Webster (just moved FROM Webster), and this area is far enough from Kingwood that I have never been there! Webster is ok - tons of restaurants and shopping and a bit of nightlife in the area. But my preference is not to live there as it is probably the most urban feeling area of Clear Lake. By that I mean the most traffic and the most densely packed for it's size. There are tons of nice places to live just a few miles from Webster.

I'll second that Webster is decent. I had fun there when I was in my 20s. Proximity to Galveston is convenient. It's a good place to go if you're a younger renter in limbo. There are some cheap apartments around but I don't think there's a "bad" part. There isn't a good part either, though. For good either go north to Clear Lake City or south to League City, which is more on Kingwood's level. The downside to Webster again is being somewhat "packed," moreso with shoppers IMO. (Clear Lake City seems to have more density in residents.) Webster is basically the Clear Lake area's shopping district, actually for most of SE Houston all the way to Galveston, so weekends can get busy; Christmas is almost hell.

That's an odd combination. Yeah, Webster is mostly commercial (at least that's the feel). There's some older and newer residential, but not a huge amount. It also has an older history (founded in 1860s or something). I don't see anything particularly special about the town, though it's not a bad place.

I've only been to Kingwood once, and that was say 20 years ago, but I think it is a master-planned community, and mostly residential. It's also newer than Webster, though it's been around awhile.

There's a bit of Japanese history. The farmland is also still there, essentially in the middle of all the development:

If your young and single I wouldn't recommend Kingwood it is really oriented towards families and older folks.

I would say Kingwood. We use to live down in the CLearlake/Webster area. 10 years ago. We recently visited down there and though there is tons of shopping the traffic is absolutely horrible. It was bad when we lived there but now it is just unlike what we ever imagined.
Kingwood is a little more remote. You have some shopping there which is nice and lots of places to eat. If you want to do serious shopping you need to come to Atascocita or around the mall on 59. Kingwood is very family but it holds its home values like you would not believe!

Single - I would pick Clear Lake over Kingwood. Clear Lake has a more diverse (in terms of married/single and ages) population.
