Can anyone give me recent information on Candlelight Oaks in terms of the the crime there? I the like the houses there built in the 1960s and 1970s. The price range is not too bad either. I want to make sure the area is safe for a family. I've seen some houses on the marke t for a while but I don't if it is because of the housing slump or is it a not so good area.

I am coming from the east coast and this area seems to offer a lot in terms of a short distance to downtown/medical center and not having to get on the expressway.

Candlelight Oaks is in the Oak Forest area. Oak Forest is a fairly safe area.

While the neighborhood of Candlelight Oaks itself is nice and quiet, the surrounding area (esp. on the main thoroughfare of Antoine) is quite sketchy. There are a ton of apartments around that way, especially near DeSoto St., and you see people loitering a lot. Never a good sign. (Oak Forest is near, but most of it is much further away from the conglomeration of apartments, on the other side of White Oak Bayou.)

Now I'm not sure how this affects Candlelight Oaks as far as crime is concerned. Definitely look it up on the crime stats page on the HPD website. http://http://www.houstontx.gov/police/cs/beatpages/beat_stats.htm (broken link) But I've read posts from a few people over the years that have said that they like living there aside from these issues.

Candlelight Estates is different than Candlelight Oaks. Estates is on the east side of the bayou, closer to Oak Forest, and very nice.
