They need to do the Westwood Mall next. That would bring back a lot of memories for me...

Yeah, I have fond memories of both Sharpstown and Westwood Malls, from when I lived in that area 20-30 years ago.

that 1961 pic of the empty area where sharpstown is located is certainly a blast from the past....downtown in the distance looks so far away..... you cant find many open traces of land like that in Houston anymore, unless you are way out in the suburbs.

the demise of sharpstown and westwood was around the mid to late 80's, and it was sealed once first colony mall opened up in 1989....

Southwest Houston was SO different in the 60s. I really miss the openness, and the more rural (not developed) appearance.

although i grew up just inside the loop from the galleria, we did our serious department store shopping in the 60's and 70's at sharpstown mall ....

I grew up in Bellaire but moved to the Hillcroft/Beechnut area in 1962. Southwest Houston was a GREAT place in those days. A J Foyt's father lived within blocks of us and we thought it was such a thrill to see him out in his yard. (Do kids nowadays even know who A J Foyt was?)

I'm in my 20s, but I know about AJ Foyt.
He is a Houston institution.
The thing is, Indycar racing is not as popular as it used to be.
It's been taken over by NASCAR and other sports.

Diversity. Really? Is that what it is called? PlazAmericas reflects, what, Japan? India? Whales? Australia? Political Correctness run amok.
It's called Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, etc. - that is diversity (even within Mexico different states have different Native American cultures).

Now an attraction on the east side of Houston would be more homogeneous since the East End is solidly Mexican American

If Westwood was to the west and along Bellaire Boulevard that would sound awesome

If/when Chinatown expands a "PlazaSaigon" really could go up
