It's really no contest. Dallas is the better sports city and honestly, its always been the better sports city. You have multiple college bowl games. You have one of the greatest college rivalries in the nation every year. You have the five time world champion Cowboys. You have the one time Stanley Cup champion Dallas Stars. You have the defending nba champion Dallas Mavericks. You have the defending AL champions once again playing to playing to get to the world series.

This is one category where Dallas beats Houston in. Dallas IMO is the best sports city in the South. Houston is getting better. But the DFW area is better.

Yeah I guess and New York City doesn't have a football team. Neither does Boston, Washington, and Miami. In fact up until next April, Miami has 1 team. Stop acting like Dallas is the only city in America where some of their teams are in the suburbs. It's quite obvious that the list was focusing on metropolitan areas instead of just the cities. Don't understand the need to dwell on that.

The Rockets are overall better than the Mavericks.

But football, some high school teams are better than the Texans.
The Mavs have been a better franchise than the Rockets since 2000 though.

Dallas is clearly a better sports city. And Metro Matt please drop this about the stadiums not being in the city. Although it certainty was a tough break for Dallas, the teams are still totally representative of Dallas as well as the area. Houston does have great stadium locations. Its not just pro sports, but also there are intense college bowl games and more support for the teams in Dallas

NBA:
Dallas- 4th Highest attendance in 2011
Houston- 20th Highest attendance in 2011
2010-2011 NBA Attendance - National Basketball Association - ESPN

NFL:
Dallas- 1st Highest attendance in 2011
Houston- 8th Highest
2011 NFL Football Attendance - National Football League - ESPN

MLB:
Dallas- 10th highest attendance
Houston- 19th highest attendance
2011 MLB Attendance - Major League Baseball - ESPN

NHL:
oh wait

So its not just based on wins. Dallas teams are more popular, and it is a very good sports city. Plus High school teams are more popular here and college sports have a bigger influence. Not sure about #1 in the nation (top 5 for sure), but they are certainty more predominant here

Honestly, while I do believe Dallas is a better sports area, its still just a list. It's not that serious for people to repeat that they in Houston have more important things to worry about like jobs. That's a pretty uppity comment.
