Hello, we will relocate to Katy very soon. We are currently living in a small town in MA. So I am so surprised to see there are 32 elementary schools in Katy! I have a 6-yrs old who is on autism spectrum. He is a high-functioning kid. Before I decide where to buy a house, I would like to figure out which school will be the best fit for him. If you have any information about special education programs in each elementary school (I heard the programs are very similar from school to school), especially which school has the best staff to deliver these programs, I will really appreciate your help.

Definitely pop in to the Houston forum and do a search on Katy and autism. Unfortunately, one of their schools is under fire, but it was an isolated incident having to do with a new special ed teacher hired by a new principal. Katy ISD has a great rep overall for special needs, but Spring Branch ISD, if you can afford it south of I-10 (77079 and 77024), has THE best public schools for autism. 77079 is the most affordable zip of the two south of I-10.

Great information! Do you have any suggestion on which elementary schools in Spring Branch ISD are the best of the best? Thanks so much!

Ellen

Anyone looking for a school in KISD avoid Exley at all cost! Over the years, we have caught them in too many lies, cover ups, speaking about parents in front of students. They simply cannot be trusted with our children that are vulnerable.

Kilpatrick Elementary has a great special ed teacher to student ratio. There were maybe 8 kiddos in Life Skills (special ed) and 4 teachers (one lead and 3 assistants) while our kid was there. Well funded and lots of resources, while still focusing on kids making meaningful progress.
