Hi everyone, I am being transferred by my job to our new location in the Jersey Village area. I am born and raised in Philadelphia PA, currently working in New Jersey. Any help and advice I can get will be appreciated.

Hello and welcome! I live in the JV area. Helpful background info would be whether you are looking to buy or rent a home or apartment, general budget, whether you have children needing public or private schools...

Excellet point, I will be looking to rent an apartment, under 1k if even possible and my children are grown, and will not be making the move with me. I am not sure if Jersey Village is a Houston neighborhood, or a suburb of Houston.

It's both but it's Houston. It is going downhill though move to Cypress which is not far at all I lived in South Philly, the Heights is the closest to Philly. It's around downtown Houston which would be a reverse commute

If I didn't have kids ( since you need private school). I would live in the Heights. Specifically called the Houston Heights. Look at Har.com

I would consider Jersey Village a close-in suburb, still a Houston address, around 20 miles to downtown Houston. I don't know why this poster claims it is going downhill, unless because it is simply not as new as the far flung suburbs in Cypress. Do not be fooled into thinking your commute from Cypress to JV won't be bad. Yes it wouldn't be as bad as going all the way downtown but the worst part of the 290 gridlock is OUTSIDE THE BELTWAY so you will still be stuck in the worst of it going to/from Cypress. Yes I know there are surface street options but with the lights and everyone else avoiding the freeway you will still find yourself stuck in traffic - needlessly, in my opinion, since you don't need a big newer home near the newer schools.

I'm not sure the best sites for finding an apartment. A couple of newer apartment complexes that come to mind in this area are Bellagio (The Bellagio - Welcome Home | Apartments for rent in - Houston, TX) and Watermarke (Watermarke Apartment Homes). I have no experience with anyone living in these, just drive past them and there are a few others that I don't remember offhand, but these would be close to work for you plus give you convenient access to downtown, IAH airport, north and west Houston etc.

I agree, but then I'm biased! :-)

Rents in the Heights, though, may be to the top of the OP's budget, depending on the size of the place they want to rent. A nice one-bedroom will probably start at $900. There are some apartments on the North Loop on TC Jester that would be a good option and could offer some quick access to 290. The Retreat at City Park on 18th Street would be another decent option since you ccould probably do surface streets to 290 using 18th.

That being said, a reverse commute on 290 is definitely preferable. OP, where is your office location?

the bldg is located in the 13000 block of west road, I could afford a higher rent, but i'm cheap.

I agree, there are some nice apartments off of 18th, TC Jester and Ella inside the loop that would be a good place to live.
