Default Huffman/Crosby areas!?

Can anybody describe how Huffman and Crosby have changed in the last 10 years? I used to live in the Atascocita/Kingwood area off of FM 1960, and I remember everytime I crossed the bridge over Lake Houston, it was almost like crossing into backwoods Alabama in 1967, extremely backwoods and undeveloped. I was just wondering if any new subdivisions have been built on the other side of Lake Houston off of FM 1960 , or if that area continues to be the same way.

Still kind of backwoodsish but some nice neighborhoods (Walden etc.) are being built in the Huffman area as the easy shopping in Atascocita just across the bridge is now available. Crosby has not changed much at all in the last 10 years except to get a bigger WalMart.

The Commons of Lake Houston is back there, that is the only thing I am familiar with over there, not typically my neck of the woods.

I have a brother in Kingwood. Lake Houston Parkway goes through to 1960 now and the whole stretch around Atascocita is pretty built up with the usual strip centers, etc. Again my experience is just visiting out there. The last time I was at the Commons area it still looked very rural, but that can be very deceiving in Houston. Sprawl will undoubtedly jump the lake and be over there at any time.

The commons is going for the multiacre estate thing. Friend of mine just bought there. Very, very nice home on 3 sprawling acres.

Yes there are some very nice homes east of the lake - and the bigger lots/acreage is one of the big differences.

A lot of people "upscale" to Huffman from Baytown/North Shore/etc. so there is still a lots of "moving on up" blue collar folks. (This is not meant as a criticism - the same is true in Atascocita.)

Huffman also has very little racial/ethnic diversity as compared to Atascocita, which is much more diverse.

I am sure that once the Crosby freeway (hwy 90) is completed all the way to downtown Houston Crosby's growth will explode. Last I saw the freeway is well on its way to being finished...

Unfortunately, it's not going to be backwoods much longer. As mentioned above, once 90 goes through, it's going to explode. Being able to live on a lake just 30 minutes from downtown will forever change Crosby. I personally like living among the rednecks with a relatively low property value (low taxes), but it's coming to an end just a couple of years after I moved there.

If you haven't seen the Atascocita side of the lake in the last 3 years, you wouldn't even recognize it, and there is a brand new neighborhood about to be developed (it's already bulkheaded with canals) between Indian Shores and Lake Shadows. Somebody has just submitted new plats for Indian Shores sections 9 and 10 just a month ago.

The house behind me, just sold for a half a million dollars in 1 day the week before Hurricane Ike. We have had about 10 new homes built in Indian Shores in the last year. My home is only 4 years old.

There is also Saddle Creek Ranch between Spanish Cove and Indian Shores that has several homes in the $500K + range.

I was looking to purchase land off of 2100 to build a boat storage facility, and the land was ridiculous in price.

Go to HAR.com and do a search for homes between $300K and $1M in the 77532 zip code (Crosby), and you may be a bit suprised.

I wish Crosby would stay simple and country with the people who live there, but unfortunately those days are ending.
