Not even close. Of the major cities, Houston is #13, San Diego is #1.

Really kind or true here.

I know a guy who got hit. He didn't have any insurance, the 16 year old illegal boy who hit him was driving his dad's truck, no insurance there either. His dad? No insurance either.

I don't know the logistics of it but the guy did sue because he ended up rupturing his spleen really bad. After a year he got $25k but since he had no insurance and after the hospital bills and legal fees he walked away with well under $10k.

I really hope the hit and run situation in Houston is better than Miami. In Miami there are constant cases where pedestrains are run over with drivers not stopping. This link shows a particularly gruesome case.

It's a warm weather city thing, I do believe. Sprinkle in "We don't have Jack for public transportation" and it makes the situation worse. USC, you are from San Diego, but I'm assuming there are more poor people in Houston than San Diego, hence more walkers. This would explain Miami also.

Not sure what poll you're using, but I can assure you Houston(4mill.) has way more people on the road drunk than San Diego(1mill.). I'm just going to chalk that up to great police work in SD.

But then again with this kind of shoddy police work (Suspect flees country after deaths of 3 teens in Hwy. 8 wreck - Houston Chronicle) it wouldn't surprise me if that poll was correct.

Another major hit and run incident here in Miami yesterday.
Houston isn't the only one with this issue...http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/10/17/2458907/ (broken link)

Unfortunately the link doesn't seem to be working. Anyway a car slammed into a bus bench injuring four people. The driver fled the scene but was caught at a nearby gas station a short while later.

Buzzzerrr! Wrong. Apples to apples Houston has 2.1MM and San Diego has 1.3MM (2010 Census). However, I agree with the policework comment. San Diego is killer on DUI arrests.

lol the saying is if you get two DUI's...you may as well move out of state, because you're finished.

My former car insurance company told me Texas DOES have a greater proportion of uninsured drivers, that is one reason why our insurance rates are higher than some other areas of the country.

**One more thing, please don't ever change your tire or stop your car on the shoulder of a TX Highway. It's a death sentence people!!**
