That is a good ratio! What else can you tell us about the program? Is it ABA style? Does she get speech or occupational? Any information would be helpful. I'm also curious about the IEP process. In my district (California) they scheduled the meeting one month before his third birthday. They did a few days of evaluations and assigned him into a program with some good services. We didn't have to fight for anything. How long was the process with Spring Branch?
I was also nervous about my son taking the bus since he was only three years old. He still doesn't always like getting on because he would rather stay at home, but he does seem to like it. The bus driver who brings him home said that he used to call it the "night night" bus because he always fell asleep on the way home. Later he started calling it the "happy bus."
I hope that all goes well for Phoebe!

They do a lot of ABA-type stuff (reinforcers, etc) but it's not formally ABA, since she is not solely in an "autism" class. One of the kiddos in her class has Down's and the other has autism too.
They told me yesterday that they might get one or two more kids by the end of the year but they were not sure. It just depends a lot on how kids in other schools end up doing.
We had Phoebe assessed in February. She was approved for services without any issues and the district did not question her diagnosis of autism at all. They have been great with everything so far. Even the bus drivers have been wonderful--calling me and letting me know when they'll be here, etc....and reassuring a somewhat shellshocked Mom that her three-year-old is in school and will be taken care of!! LOL! Still hard for me to believe!
She did well on the bus today...for Phoebe! She cried pretty much until she got in her classroom, and then lightened up. She was pretty happy until she saw me standing outside waiting for her and she lost her little mind at that point, LOL!
She has done so well with Sunday School that I hope this transition won't take too long.

I forgot to mention that she does get speech once a week at school, but she also goes to private therapy outside of school twice a week--both speech and occupational using Floortime methods.

Worried Downe Syndrome Mom!!!
Im in the process of moving to houston and need help in getting my four year old daughter in school. She was born with Down Syndrome and currently in school where we are noving from (Port Arthur,Texas)since last year. She goes to an all day PPCD program and she attends all day like the normal school aged student. She receives speech theraphy as well. We are currently living with my sister whom is in the process of moving to the northside of houston and we will be in the Spring Independent School District. Everyone is talking about autism children but i dont hear much about down syndrome children. And im very concerned because my daughter is use to going to school. She's been in school since last year on an all day PPCD program. What i want to know is what are the requirements to get her in school and does anyone have a number that i could possibly get in contact with someone from the school or the administration office in the district? Please help!!!!!!

I would be concerned, too, if I were seeking special needs in Spring ISD. Move to Katy ISD or Spring Branch ISD. Spring--in a word--SUCKS.

I'm so sorry, I have no idea about Clute. That's very small, rural, Brazoria County--perhaps you can get into Lake Jackson schools...at least that's bigger...or Angleton...good luck!

There will be one teacher, and two aides with a total of five children. The director told me she has developed other classes for several other elementary schools. You may want to check it out. Of course I am skeptical, and I pray that it works out for my son.

Hi, we just got the official diagnosis on my daughter two days back. She is very young (21 months), and so we have a good chance if we place her on early intervention. Our choices are Parish school or Westview atleast for one year and then change her to SBISD or HISD, since we cannot afford to keep paying for tution in that amount. Would you be able to give me the name of the school in HISD? I work in the Med center, so it would be much more convenient, if we can find a good school in the HISD area.
Thank you very much.

Stafford Municipal School District and Special Needs
Hi all,
I have read a lot of post about Katy ISD, Cyfair ISD, Spring Branch ISD and Fort Bend ISD, but I haven't read anything about Stafford ISD.
Is anyone familiar with Stafford ISD? Can anyone tell me what is best Fort Bend ISD or Staffor MSD for inclusion of a 5year old child with multiple impairments? I'm planning to move to that area and I need help.
Thanks, a Proud and Needy parent
