Ok. I was just checking. If you want to come to Alabama, Alabama A&M AKA The Hill will be waiting on ya!

TSU lost their accreditation several times ( or was it just once and then they were on probation again? I don't remember). So it's not just people's opinions. There's something to back up the comments. And it has nothing to do with "HBCU" There are also other people going there, you know... You think too much about race. Quit it.

When was that? One of my friends graduated last December from UH with a degree in finance as well. He still has not found a job, either. I think his GPA wasn't all that bad, though. I think 3.3 or 3.4. Ive been wondering why he can't find a job here, too.

LOL! When it boils down to it, people form their perceptions about HBCUs based on race. SOURCE: I attend an HBCU.

BTW, good luck to the OP. You've made start looking potential graduate schools for civil engineering. I did look into PVAMU as well.

The current job market is still very tough for those just out of college. I decided to go back to college because no one was hiring in my field (architecture) since the real estate implosion.

People rag on HBCUs but the facts are just the truth when it comes to TSU. She sholdn't just "give TSU a try because it's a HBCU" not if she wants a foot in the door. I honestly believe the look at school and toss the resume notion and TSU's reputation would definitely do that.

College is what you make of it but with TSU's rep, you can make yourself happy on campus then be unhappy in the job hunt.

TSU's reputation in the past 4 years his just gone down so much to where if you really want an HBCU TSU shouldn't even be on your list. I have two friends - one who just started UH law this year and the other at South Texas and they applied to every school in Texas except TSU it wasn't even an option. I think they're still ok for pharmacy but for everything else, their numbers on testing aren't good at all and well...it's sad but the reputation is just seriously in the crapper.

As far as graduated from UH and not finding a job it's what you made of your time their. A LOT of people who don't find jobs right out of graduation in the past few years missed out/weren't proactive enough. I know tons who graduated from UH in business and finance and got jobs. Most of their jobs came from internships and stuff.

I didn't know TSU was that bad! To be honest, that's how people describe most HBCUs, just the way y'all are describing TSU. #SAD

It could very well be. I have yet to be interviewed by a company that has anything to do with my degree (including accounting which took up all of my electives). The ONLY positions I have been called back on didn't even require a degree.

Another reason could be that I had no relevant experience once I graduated (full disclosure) because I had to work and pay the bills so an internship was not an option. If it would have been, UHCL had some very small pickings.

Like I said, I would call the career service offices or even go in and get a feel of how the process would go once you've graduated. Only you can know what's best for you and always listen to your gut feelings.

Didn't you read what I said? "Lost their accreditation". Do you know that word? Do you know what it means when a College loses it's accreditation ? It is a major problem.

I know, but Houston's unemployment rate is relatively low, and I just did not think it would take this long for him to find something. But perhaps he's just doing something wrong.

PV A&M gets a lot of respect around Houston for engineering, technical, etc.
