My DH works for a software giant and they (he, actually) does a lot of hiring from selective liberal arts colleges. He tells me he knows these grads can write and communicate effectively, that is a big reason he favors them.

DH was in M&A and long range planning for a Fortune 100 company. He always hired liberal arts majors when he wanted someone who could research and write.

Another thing liberal arts majors can often do is take initiative and execute a plan without being instructed about every single detail along the way.

But they take O&G in a heartbeat after working as a barista at Starbucks.

LOL. Fortuantly for those with BA degrees, Skilling had a BS (no pun intended) in undergrad. Later a MasterBull**itArtist degree from Haaaarvad

I have a liberal arts degree and work in O&G. I mostly do research, draft documents and negotiate contracts so reading/writing skills are most useful.

You'd be surprised how difficult it is to land a job as a barista at Starbucks! Several of my friends thought this would be a great "survivor job" until they applied and were rejected. Humbling.

And no, I've never applied there, but I sure thought about it in grad school when I was donating plasma to earn rent money.
