Would this save money on gas heating, if you used just a portable heater in a bedroom at night, and turn off a house central heating?

House footage: 3000 sq ft
Bedroom: 300 sq ft
Total hours heated at night: 8 hrs (4 hrs with oil heater thermostat)
Current gas bill: about $150
New electric oil-filled heater price: $100

Is this calculation correct?
$150 for 30 days = $40 of gas expenses at night
1500Watt oil-filled heater occasionally turns on = 2 hrs during night @ $.12/Kwt = $15/month

Savings: $25 a month?

Get a couple of cozy blankets or quilts and get used to sleeping under them. Spend $0.00 for the rest of your life heating the room you are sleeping in.

Added benefit: Sleep all year round with your windows open, and add five years to your life.

no. I think you need to figure out why your gas bill is so high for october. I paid $22, with a gas dryer. I'll pay probably $40 in the following months because I blast the heater upstairs in the morning from 70-whatever so I can get up, shower etc and then turn it off

i'd say you have a big leak which is a huge problem. KABOOM! or you need to realize it is unnecessary to have your 3000 sq ft home a toasty 82 degrees in the "winter". its not even been that cold this month..

Your current gas bill is $150? Or your peak gas bill during winter was $150? My current gas bill has been running around $23. Why is your gas bill so high? I would be concerned about a leak too.

We kept our approx 2000sqft house at 70 last winter and the highest bill we ever had was around $50 with just a basic 80% eff furnce. And that is with gas stove/oven and water heater. Right now our bill is around $20. Something definitely doesn't seem right with your gas usage.

Our highest gas bill was for last February, $147.00 for 2 furnaces. That is when we had all that cold. It runs about 20 a month for 2 water heaters.

Isn't there a whole bunch of service fees and stuff? I thought I remembered it being a little pricy just to have gas.

My mom usually wont let the heat go over 69 degrees. Therefore there are heater fans strategically placed to keep me from shivering. Comes in real handy in the mornings when the bathroom tiles seem to be frozen.
