The TEA commissioner said that the TEA has revoked NFISD's accreditation and formally ordered it to close. HISD will annex the district. This pends the approval of the justice department.

Many aspects have not yet been answered

North Forest ISD nears closure - Houston Chronicle

Quote:
Among the questions to be answered: Will HISD keep all the North Forest buildings or move some students? What, if any, debt will HISD have to assume? Will the district retain any North Forest teachers? Are the students properly identified as gifted or in need of special education?

About 6 months ago they order them to close then about 6 weeks later then said they could stay open. After about 8 weeks of school they now see they are doing nothing to fix there problems so they get closed for good wow

NFISD had been in trouble for three decades. I knew it was never going to change.

I hope that HISD keeps the actual campuses open (it can force all of the NFISD teachers to re-apply and then rebuild the administrations at the schools) - It can harmonize the attendance boundaries so Kashmere gets more students

I wouldn't mind having a stab at predicting what the Kashmere-North Forest boundary would look like

How is annexing them to HISD going to make them better?

1. Gives them access to HISD magnet programs
2. Overall, throughout history, HISD has been operated more responsibly than NFISD (I know there are people who criticize Grier, and they may have justification in the criticism, but...) - NFISD has been in trouble since the late 1980s
3. With the area in HISD, property values may increase. It will give homebuilders an incentive to open new housing developments. The Madison High School zone has seen wave after wave of new homes. The same needs to happen in the NFISD zone.

Also HISD was the only choice because, as a big school district, it can easily absorb 7,500 students. Other school districts may have been burdened.

Anyhow, another good thing is that HISD now has a fourth athletic stadium and bus barn, so all four parts of the district are now well covered

For those of you wondering how it will affect HISD demographics, I don't think it would do it that much.
It would slightly affect Aldine ISD if it was combined with that district, but it would have significantly affected Sheldon ISD

I took the 2009-2010 HISD figures and the 2010 NFISD figures (from the annual report) and combined them

OLD HISD

American Indian/Alaskan Native 531 0.3%
African American 53,680 26.5%
Asian 5,962 2.9%
Hispanic 125,097 61.7%
Native Hawaiian/Other Islander 373 0.2%
Two or More 1,241 0.6%
White 15,889 7.8%
Total 202,773

NFISD
Black: 68.6%*7,410=5083.26
Hispanic: 30.8%*7,410=2282.28
Asian: .1%*7,410=7.41
White: .5%*7,410=37.05
Total: 7,410

NEW

American Indian/Alaskan Native 531 = .25%
African American 58763.26 = 27.958%
Asian 5969.41 = 2.8%
Hispanic 127,379.28 = 60.6%
Native Hawaiian/Other Islander 373 = .177%
Two or More 1,241 = .59%
White 15,926.05 = 7.577%
Total 210,183
--------
If NFISD had been merged into Aldine ISD (Aldine 2011 figures):

Aldine ISD
Black: 25.73%*63,900 = 16441.47
Hispanic: 69.75%*63,900 = 44570.25
Asian: 1.39%*63,900 = 888.21
Native: 0.11%*63,900 = 70.29
White: 2.17%*63,900 = 1386.63
Total: 63,900

Aldine ISD+NFISD

Hispanic: 46852.53 = 65.7%
Black: 21524.73 = 30.18%
White: 1423.68 = 1.996%
Asian: 895.62 = 1.25595%
Native: 70.29
Total: 71,310

----
If it was Sheldon ISD (December 2010)

Sheldon ISD:

Student Enrollment (December 2010) 6,861
Hispanic: 59.9%*6,861=4109.739
Black: 23.5%*6,861=1612.335
White: 14.1%*6,861=967.401
Native: 1.9%*6,861=130.359
Asian: 0.6%*6,861=41.166
Total: 6,861

Sheldon ISD+NFISD
Black: 6695.595 = 46.9%
Hispanic: 6,392.019 = 44.79%
White: 1,004.451 = 7%
Native: 130.359 = .9%
Asian: 48.576 = .3%
Total: 14,271
--------
Humble ISD is almost 36,000, so let's assume it is 36,000

Humble ISD:

Student Enrollment (December 2010) 6,861
White = 51.4%*36,000 = 18,504
Hispanic = 26.4%*36,000 = 9,504
Black = 18.2%*36,000 = 6,552
Other (assume its Asian) = 4%*36,000 = 1440
Total: 36,000

NFISD
Black: 68.6%*7,410=5083.26
Hispanic: 30.8%*7,410=2282.28
Asian: .1%*7,410=7.41
White: .5%*7,410=37.05
Total: 7,410

Humble ISD+NFISD
White: 18,541.05 = 42.7%
Hispanic: 11,786.28 = 27%
Black: 11,635.26 = 26.8%
Asian: 1447.41 = 3.3%
Total: 43,410

Or rather, it's almost certain that the justice department is going to approve the closure of NFISD.

You are right - It's too late for the politicians to do anything. The grandstanding is silly and pointless.
