Dorothy, how do I e-mail you through the group (I assume you were referring to the city-data group)? I am new to city-data and cannot readily see how to do this.

We were in the same situation as you are now. Our son is 8 and has asperger and hyperactivity, almost three years ago we move to Houston from France were he was struggling with the international school system. The first year he went to a private catholic school, Saint Cecila, and was very difficult because they are not prepare to handled kids like ours. After looking all the options I can say that we decided for the Parrish and we are extremately happy. The school is great, they have their own clinic inside, all the teachers are specialist, and the environment is great. They have a good academic level and a lot of activities for all levels. Just recently our son got his own tablet and all his homework are now electronic.

We didn't liked the Monarch that much because after visiting we saw that is more for kids with larger disabilities, is a great school but from our point view not for high function kids.

Westview we liked too and We didn't know about that they don't accept hyperactivity. I our cases we liked the Parrish more.

Another option that our sons did a summer school is the new school at the height. Is a smaler school but good too. It depends where you will be living. There are other options too for you to check: a more regular school that have a good support system is Wesley academy, a lot of the kids from Parrish go there after they transition to regular schools.

There is a new one that one of our therapist told us about that is the way to Katy, it said that is especial for Asperger, we haven't visit yet but are planing to do it soon, I'll let you know our opinion if you are interested. There are tons a good tips in Houston that we can share if you want

Good luck

Yelitza and Arnold Aponte

Default Name of School

Yelitza... if/when you get a chance, I would like to know the name of the private school (towards Katy) that you guys were planning to tour. I live in Katy and looking for help for my PDD girl outside the public school system.

TIA!

Look for the individual MOLLY SLUSHER. A family member of mine was in her kindergarten class at Matzke Elementary on Jones about 12 years ago.

Yelzita-how was your experience at New School? We're considering sending our son with Aspergers there for Kindergarten and any info would be much appreciated. Thanks, Leslie

Default To make a sound decision you need good information!

Aparently Katy ISD is no good - some recent news showed up saying kids get unusual punishment. I participated in a HISD forum recently and of the board members stated that in the past HISD has lacked better services, but are now targetting these services and improving.

Do a search on this forum so you can pull up the older threads (they are not too old).

I just wanted to add my two cents on this KATY ISD matter and "Katy ISD not being good". I just recently purchased a home there in Katy, and having a special needs child, I obviously did my homework regarding the matter and this incident that occurred in one of the schools in Katy. Not only did I go armed with information about it, but I also spoke with locals in the area that have children both with and without special needs and they all voted hands down Katy ISD being a great school district and excellent choice for children with the exception of this isolated incident.

Basically I am saying, that this was something that happened in 2010 and reported on in 2011 once it was found out, an isolated incident that caused this teacher practicing these volitile practices to be removed from Katy ISD. Below are some links with more information on the story of what happened. Hope this provides more insight and sound information to make a decision armed with information.

Would you expect someone with kids in the district to say anything different?

One of my kids has just been diagnosed with Aspergers; he is now in first grade in Spring Branch, before that he attended a Montessori School were his peculiarities were not a problem. I see that you posted this a year ago, and being in a similar situation I think that hearing from your experience about your choice of school will be very helpful. I'm at a loss. Thank you so much.
