We may be moving to Houston in the near future and i was wondering if anybody can recommend a good Non-parochial private school. My son enetered kindergarden this year and we will be looking to find a replacement for his current school in kentucky.

Thank you all.

Need to know where in Houston you would be. There are TONS of good private schools, most actually are non-parochial.

Well, we were thinking South or SouthEast. May be Clearlake area? There is an international school that I looked up, but it's way on the other side of Houston.

Thanks a lot!

I don't know about the Clearlake/south/southeast side of town but there will be an annual private school fair in September. I went last year, it's a great chance to meet lots of school reps and pick up info. There is also a web site with lots of the private schools listed, tour dates, web site links. Just do a search on this forum or google for more info.

I just wanted to say hello and I'm sorry I can't help you specifically as you're looking in the south/east area. We live in the north side of Houston and I have a kindergartener in private school... we moved here from KY too. So welcome and good luck with your move!

If you move to the Clear Lake area, I wonder why you are interested in private schools. The Clear Creek ISD, Friendswood ISD and Pearland ISD are all excellent (Don't know about the Dickenson ISD).

Clear Creek ISD actually is going to be offering 2 years of college free to those who qualify for the GT program in high school. This is in conjunction with U/H Clearlake.

Pearland ISD is going to the International Baccalaureate curriculum in all its schools though only one elementary school currently has that and it's being phased in in other schools. The IB curriculum is well defined and internationally accepted.

Friendswood ISD seems to have excellent schools as well, though I know a bit less about them since we decided to move to Pearland.

You would have to research each school as I am sure some are better than others in all of these areas, but you might want to check them out.

Dorothy

Kinkaid would likely be one of the best non-parochial private schools.

The John Cooper School is up there as well.

I live in Clear Lake, and would recommend The Galloway School in Friendswood. You are best in private education, the schools may be good, but your child would be a small fish in a big pond. If I had the chance to do it all over, my 2 would have gone to private school.
