So I finally got my clearance on all of my contingencies that I need to be approved by with my offer.

My future employer wants me to start on the 5th of December which gives me less than two weeks to give my current employer.

Should I ask HR to delay my start of date or should I give my two week notice today? Is it in bad taste to give my notice a day before Thanksgiving?

Thanks for the advice.

Unless you're under contract, the 2 week notice is a courtesy, not a requirement. Personally, I wouldn't want to start off on the wrong foot with your new employer, so I would accept their Dec 5th start date.

As for giving notice before Thanksgiving, the timing is unfortunate but sounds like it needs to be done.

I'm surprised this wansn't discussed during your interview process. I would ask them if you could give two weeks to your old employer. You don't want to burn any bridges, you never know if you have to go crawling back to get your job back, unless you don't give a damn about your old job.

Agreed, tell them now that December 2nd will be your last day with the company. 2 weeks notice is courteous, but not necessary.

Especially for a contractor. If there was a slowdown they would have likely have no problem letting you go on one days notice.
