I think a pledge to the Texas flag is good considering that America as a whole can't pledge to the American flag at school. Every state should follow Texas.

What makes you believe that. There are some states that don't require it, but most do. See the map at the website below.

I know alot of states have banned the pledge of allegiance in schools because it has God in it.

That is simply not true. Don't confuse what the media says with what is really true. Did you look at the map I linked?

There are states that allow the students to opt out of saying the pledge, but even there its not many. Most states still mandate that the pledge is to be said. There have been attempts to ban it, but none have been upheld.

7 states have no law about the pledge which just means that individual schools and school districts are free to decide whether or not to pledge. In 6 more states, the law gives schools the option to say or not say the pledge. In every other state, the law says that the pledge is mandated in schools, though in many of those students may have an option not to say it if they wish.

Based on your suggestion (and my mistake of misreading your comment), I was intrigued to look into the Texas Handbook further. I did an Amazon search of Texas Handbook and found this: "The Portable Handbook of Texas"

Despite the high price, I found a re-seller who had a 2nd hand library copy. I must say, this is officially the largest and thickest book I own, and will need to find room in one of my bookcases to store this beast. There's absolutely nothing portable about it...I imagine that it must have been a little inside joke between the authors/editors to publish it with such a title. Even the print is macro sized...it's as if there is enough text on each page to keep you reading for quite some time.

With that said, it's absolutely amazing. There's so much information packed in here about Texas, one could say this is the ultimate resource of Texas history. I think I get why they claim it to be portable. The amount of information in this book would normally be printed in volumes.

Anyways, I eventually found the online Handbook of Texas you referenced in your post...I guess I have two good resources to get my history fix from

** I meant to post this shot, as well
