And "nice" in what way? When you are getting close to retirement, there will be all sorts of things that "kick in" to make a place "nice." Family / grandchildren? Friends? Weather? Taxes? Places that are close to your interests / hobbies / 2nd career?

I can appreciate CA and CO and so many other places that have far more scenic areas (but, also unscenic areas.......hey, let's face it.......there are UGLY places in CA and CO) than Houston, and TX in general, but would never want to live there for a variety of reasons........my own reasons.

I'm sticking with my opinions.

Yep.

I'm with you. Scenery is last on my list but I grew up in a flat city. Houston isn't ugly, some suburbs are I guess.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
That's so true. I have some very beautiful pictures of California, but you have to admit it takes a real idiot (excuse me, idiots) to believe that a drive from downtown Houston to anywhere for that matter is going to be as beautiful as the California coast. I think even someone in a third-world country would know that, let alone someone who has internet access and never left their home. The physical characteristics and infrastructure/building style of a locale are just so much more easily researched. It comes off as stating the obvious and generally isn't very insightful.

California's nice.

What suburbs do you consider ugly?

California's nice.
What ever happened to beauty being in the eye of the beholder? If some odd person did happen to consider Houston to be more beautiful than California, why does that make them an idiot?

I think every bit of Humble is ugly. It has kind of a ghetto like look to it. As far as looks I do think The Woodlands is the best just for the greenery.

If Pearland is considered a suburb it's on the ugly side to.

Then again, I hate to say it but when looking at map of Houston, everything on the right side is pretty ugly as a whole.

On a map, split Houston proper from 45 to where "Houston" as a whole ends. Draw a straight line regardless of how the road goes but straight from where 45 hits the Beltway ALLLL the way down to I guess Hwy 6 ends Houston from The Woodlands.

Looking at it face on, on the left of that line is pretty Houston and on the right is ugly Houston.

That's from the top to bottom - Top - Humble, Kingwood, Channelview, Pasadena, Friendswood, Deer Park, Pearland, League City, Galena Park, Dickenson etc.

Clear Lake's not too bad and probably the best looking suburb on that side of a map though.

While on the left top to bottom is better looking as a whole. Top - Tomball, Cypress, Katy/Memorial/etc, Sugar Land and it's surroundings /Telfair/ Richmond/Rosenburg, Stafford, Missouri City etc.

As a whole of course. Though not everything is pretty but the left side feels like you can drive and be in not so pretty pockets for about 10 minutes then hit something nice looking for about 30-45 minutes then not pretty. I think that's basically all of East Houston. East of I45 at least. West of I45 is nice looking as a whole.

The right just feels like grungy, barrio, grungy, ghetto etc and not good looking at all. Of course the ship channel is on that side so that could be some of it. Just really grungy all over.

Not ugly but not aesthetically pleasing like The Woodlands or Sugarland. "Ugly" ones I have in mind are Katy and Pearland.

Compared to River Oaks maybe, what ghettos have you been to to think Humble is ghetto?

Exactly. People love to use that word around here; that and "barrio", of which there are none in Houston.

Humble is an older suburb, with a few less-than-upscale areas, but ghetto isn't how I would describe it. Certainly not the Fall Creek area.

But I pretty much stopped reading once he described Kingwood as one of the ugly suburbs. I just don't see it.

People kill me throwing out the term ghetto for everything around here. I'm still laughing over that "ghetto" Galleria thread. It's a substitute and less offensive way of saying "places with minorities".
