151k will buy you a home of that size in the suburbs. You can also find more than a shoddy built KB home. You might find an older neighborhood that suits you or even some of the newer ones. The Sunday Chronicle has a nice home section, you might want to see about getting one sent to you and checking things out. Not everyone can afford to live in a 300-500k home in midtown. It is about 30 minutes to the central business district from clear lake - and about 45 in rush hour traffic. Because Houston is so spread out, I would suggest checking out neighborhoods near your employment. There are good suburbs, with good schools on all sides of town, although sometimes I think the recommendations turn into a popularity contest with everyone pushing their own area.

That's true. Should have said I meant new to about 15 yrs old. For 151k in Clear Lake you can also find a 40 yr old house in very good shape. You'll just have to deal with the 8 ft ceilings in every room.

Meyerland, Greenbriar, Bellaire, Yorktown, etc also run about 300-500k for that size. And there are more expensive places as well. Pretty much all the area between uptown and downtown will cost you.

you can go to HotOn! Houston - Community Videos, Builder Specials and Inventory Alerts - Houston and search by the price range you are interested in to see if any of these neighborhoods or homes meet your interests. This site is new construction only. You can go to Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation to look at resales. Good luck.

Default Thinking About Relocating To Houston

If you want to live 15 mins from the prime areas which are not ghetto, they will be about 40-50 years old and about 300-500k for that size.
I SEE THAT YOU SEEM TO KNOW HOUSTON WELL. MY FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO RELOCATE THERE NEXT YEAR AND NEED TONS OF INFO. WE HAVE 3 CHILDREN, SO SCHOOLS ARE A BIG ISSUE. OF COURSE WE WOULD LIKE A LOW CRIME AREA AND A COMMUNITY WHERE WE COULD GET OUR MONEYS WORTH. IF YOU COULD SHED ANY INSIGHT IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE.
