So I was driving to the airport and had to take the new section of BW8 on the NE side. Saw the sign that said EZ tag only, but I had no tag but proceeded anyway. I figured if I wasnt getting off I didnt need to pay and I would pay when I got off near IAH. Nope, there were no toll booths. I suppose I'm going to get a ticket now, I wonder how much. And is there a store downtown where I can get an EZ tag or something called a Texas Tag?

No you won't get a ticket if you call them and tell them what happened, the DL of the car you were driving and offer an over the phone credit card charge. This just happened to me up in Dallas. EZ tag and DallasTag are both supposed to work in both locations

It doesn't matter if the exit ramp has a toll or not, you will still get a ticket for going through the booth without an ez tag.

yes, if you are not a member you'll get a bill of how much you have to pay as a non-member (which has huge fees). you can choose to be a member first before you pay.

first thing i'll advice you to do is apply for ez tag online. they'll send you the sticker by mail. then wait for the bill then call them that you are already a member. they'll just deduct it from your credit.

also if this is just a one time mistake they may "forgive" you.

been there, done that.

If you get your EZ Tag in the mail, be sure that it is activated before going on any tolls. I would call after activating it online because their website really is lacking.

Apparently I used the toll road within 12 hours of activating my tag online and I had fees on my account for not being active yet. The woman at HCTRA told me "you need to give it time". Um that's not at all what the website indicates. It tells you you are activated and can use your tag.

No EZ tag store near downtown but IIRC and if you're making the run between downtown and Clear Lake, the Pasadena branch will be the least inconvenient to go to. EZ tag, TX tag are interchangable.

Did not read the other replies but my grandfather used a toll road a few months ago without tags. He just called them the next day and they let him mail in a check for 7 bucks or whatever the tolls amounted to. No fines no hassles.

Don't know if that's just him getting lucky a nice person answered the phone when he called or standard practice though.

Dude! I'm always amazed at how nice the folks are that answer the call center for HCTRA. I have to call them all the time because the traps miscount my trailer axels. They'll bend over backwards trying to help you out.
