Persimmon! I love persimmons.

There was a fruit tree sale at the Galv. Co Agricultural extension a few weeks ago, and one at the Brazoria county extension this weekend. See the flyer on this page:

Brazoria County Master Gardeners*|* Upcoming Events

I am assuming if they sell it, it must grow here!

Looks like is hosting a "replant" event this weekend, selling fruit trees. You may want to check out discovery green website to see if they can give you more advise

I'm looking at planting fruit trees as well and will probably start with:

Kishu Mandarin
Improved Meyer Lemon Tree

I've read that both do well in Houston.

We had a pomegranate when I was growing up in what is now the Montrose. It was fun to just pick from the tree and eat. Relatives had satsumas.

I agree that any kind of citrus fruit would do great in Houston. I think that apple is NOT out of the question.
Figs are doing quite well. I have fig tree in my back yard. Plums could be also considered.

A friend of mine has an avocado tree in his backyard and if you like avocado I think that is definitely the way to go. He uses them all the time, and it actually saves him money since avocados at the grocery store are pretty expensive.
